This most probably is a stupid question, but I need to know anyway.
Will tomatoes grow very well here in the winter or should I wait until the spring? If now is an ok time, where should I go to
get the starters. If no starters, does someone have a lead on good seeds?

The cool nights in Dec/January will probably not be great for tomatoes who love sun AND Heat. Wait till Feb. And buy the soil -- the sandy salty content of stuff you'll dig up in your yard is probably not going to produce the best stuff
If you go to Sayulita Life and then to their message board -- hunt down a poster called Camille In Paradise. She hooked me up with some great seeds -- she has lots of varieties.

Last year in February we purchased healthy 10" tomato starts at the La Cruz Sunday Market. They were fast growing and tasty, bearing fruit starting in April. They soon out grew our cages. We also found tomato plants growing from our compost trench!
